More and more Nepalis are studying, working and settling in Canada. Long winters, study pressure and changing visa rules can make the first years hard. You can talk to me online in Nepali or English.
What Nepalis in Canada often tell me about
- Study pressure and part-time work for students
- Worry about study permits, work permits and permanent residence
- High rent and living costs
- Long, dark winters and feeling cut off
- Loneliness and missing family
- Low mood, anxiety, panic or poor sleep
Time difference
Canada is well behind Nepal. The gap depends on your province and changes with daylight saving time (from March to early November).
- Toronto and Ottawa: 10 hours 45 minutes behind (9 hours 45 minutes in summer)
- Calgary and Edmonton: 12 hours 45 minutes behind (11 hours 45 minutes in summer)
- Vancouver: 13 hours 45 minutes behind (12 hours 45 minutes in summer)
An evening session in Canada is early the next morning in Nepal.
About medicines if you live in Canada
- Canadian pharmacies need a prescription from a prescriber licensed in Canada. I can write to your doctor with my assessment and advice so they can prescribe for you.
- You can usually bring a personal supply of prescribed medicine, in its original pack, with a prescription or letter.
- Please do not carry or post medicines across borders without checking the rules first. If you need medicine, I can write a clear letter with my assessment and advice for a local doctor, who can then prescribe for you.

How online sessions work from Canada
- Message me on WhatsApp (+977 9851347591) and tell him you are in Canada and which city.
- He will offer a time that suits your time zone, and send payment details. You can pay by card from Canada, or a family member can pay in Nepal.
- You get a Google Meet link. Join from a quiet, private place. A phone with earphones is enough.
- Your first session is a full assessment. We agree a plan together, in Nepali or English.
Common questions
Can a Nepali in Canada see a psychiatrist online in Nepali?
Yes. I see Nepalis in Canada online by Google Meet, in Nepali or English, at times that suit your time zone.
Will my university, employer or visa be affected?
What you share stays private. I do not contact your university, employer or immigration unless you ask me to in writing, or someone’s life is in danger.
Can my parents in Nepal join or pay?
Yes, if you agree. Parents can join a session, or pay in Nepal by Fonepay, eSewa or Khalti.
