Japan has a large and growing Nepali community of students, cooks, workers and families. Language, long hours and pressure to succeed can leave people feeling alone. You can talk to me online in Nepali or English.
What Nepalis in Japan often tell me about
- Language school or college, plus part-time work, with little time for sleep
- Pressure to pay back loans and send money home
- Worry about visa renewal and changing visa status
- Language barriers and feeling left out
- Loneliness, especially in the first year
- Low mood, anxiety or panic, and drinking more to cope
- Family stress, and raising children between two cultures
Time difference
Japan is 3 hours 15 minutes ahead of Nepal all year. When it is 9 PM in Tokyo, it is 5:45 PM in Kathmandu.
Evening sessions in Japan fall in the afternoon in Nepal, which is easy to arrange.
About medicines if you live in Japan
- Japan has very strict rules. Some medicines that are legal in Nepal or elsewhere, including some ADHD medicines, are banned. Others need an import certificate if you bring more than a small personal supply.
- Japanese pharmacies need a prescription from a doctor in Japan.
- Please do not carry or post medicines across borders without checking the rules first. If you need medicine, I can write a clear letter with my assessment and advice for a local doctor, who can then prescribe for you.
