About Dr. Yujal Man Singh

Committed to Your Mental Health Journey

I am Dr. Yujal Man Singh, a Consultant Psychiatrist, Lecturer at the Department of Psychiatry at Nepali Army Institute of Health Sciences (NAIHS), and Commissioned Major in the Nepali Army. My life's work is dedicated to promoting compassionate, evidence-based mental health care in Nepal and beyond.

After completing my Doctor of Medicine (Psychiatry) from the prestigious Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, India, and my MBBS from Manipal College of Medical Sciences, I have been committed to advancing mental health services through clinical care, research, teaching, and community engagement.

Currently, I practice at Shree Birendra Hospital, a leading tertiary care hospital in Kathmandu, where I specialize in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of a broad spectrum of psychiatric conditions — including anxiety disorders, depression, PTSD, OCD, substance use disorders, and stress-related illnesses.

A Journey of Service: From Nepal to the World

Before specializing in psychiatry, I served in various roles as a General Duty Medical Officer in both urban and rural Nepal — including high-altitude regions like Mustang — and participated in United Nations peacekeeping missions in South Sudan and Lebanon as a Senior Medical Officer.

These experiences strengthened my understanding that mental health challenges are universal — and that access to compassionate, high-quality care should be available to everyone, everywhere.

Internationally Trained, Locally Grounded

I have completed specialized training in TEAM-CBT (Levels 1–3) with the Feeling Good Institute (USA), and have pursued continuous education through leading institutions such as NIMHANS, India, and Johns Hopkins University (Psychological First Aid). I am certified in Suicide Prevention (QPR and LivingWorks) and telemedicine.

My clinical approach blends Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), evidence-based pharmacotherapy, mindfulness practices, and crisis intervention, all delivered with deep cultural sensitivity rooted in Nepalese realities.

Teaching, Research, and Mental Health Advocacy

As a Lecturer at NAIHS, I train both undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, mentor the next generation of Nepali mental health professionals, and advocate for broader mental health awareness through seminars, workshops, and community programs — including leading mental health and suicide prevention campaigns for the Nepali Army.

I am also actively engaged in psychiatric research, with published work on Internet Gaming Disorder, Delirium Tremens, and psychiatric competencies development in reputed journals.

Awards and Recognition

My commitment to excellence has been recognized internationally. Some highlights include:

      • Gold Medal for Best Paper at the 14th SAARC Psychiatric Conference (2023)
      • First Prize at the Online National Psychiatry Update (2020), Manipal, India
